DomainKeys Identified Mail, or DKIM, is a method for verifying the genuineness of an email using an e-signature. When DKIM is enabled for a particular domain name, a public cryptographic key is published to the global DNS system and a private one is kept on the mail server. If a new email is sent, a signature is issued using the private key and when the message is delivered, that signature is validated by the incoming POP3/IMAP server using the public key. Thus, the receiver can easily distinguish if the email is legitimate or if the sender’s email address has been forged. A discrepancy will appear if the content of the email has been modified in the meantime as well, so DomainKeys Identified Mail can also be used to ensure that the sent and the delivered emails are identical and that nothing has been attached or erased. This validation system will heighten your email safety, as you can confirm the authenticity of the important email messages that you get and your colleagues can do likewise with the email messages that you send them. Based on the particular mail service provider’s policies, a message that fails the check may be deleted or may appear in the recipient’s inbox with a warning flag.

DomainKeys Identified Mail in Shared Website Hosting

The DomainKeys Identified Mail option is enabled by default for all domains that are hosted in a shared website hosting account on our cloud hosting platform, so you will not have to do anything yourself to activate it. The only requirement is that the particular domain name should be hosted in a website hosting account on our platform using our NS and MX records, so that the emails will go through our email servers. The private key will be created on the server and the TXT record, which contains the public key, will be published to the DNS system automatically, so you won’t have to do anything manually on your end in order to enable this feature. The DomainKeys Identified Mail validation system will permit you to send trustworthy e-mail messages, so if you’re sending a newsletter or offers to clients, for instance, your email messages will always reach their target destination, while unauthorized third parties will not be able to forge your email addresses.

DomainKeys Identified Mail in Semi-dedicated Servers

Our semi-dedicated servers come with DomainKeys Identified Mail activated by default, so in case you choose a semi-dedicated hosting package and you add a domain using our name servers through your Hepsia Control Panel, the records required for the email validation system will be set up automatically – a private key on our mail servers for the e-signature and a TXT resource record carrying the public key for the global DNS database. As the DKIM protection is set up for a specific domain, all e-mail addresses created using it will carry a signature, so you won’t have to worry that the email messages that you send may not be delivered to their target address or that someone may spoof any of your email addresses and attempt to scam/spam people. This may be really important in case you use email communication in your business, since your colleagues and/or clients will be able to distinguish legitimate email messages from spoofed ones.
